Father and son triumph anew
Tyce and Logan Mister picked up where they left off after winning the Men’s Beach Volleyball Samoa Qualifier 2 held last Saturday at the Hyatt Regency Saipan sand courts.
The father-and-son pair, who topped Qualifier 1 last month, defeated Chris Nelson and Tyler Wesley in the finals of the second and last leg of the trials that were held to select the CNMI’s representatives to the 2019 Pacific Games this summer.
The Misters made it to the championship round of the double-elimination tournament after defeating Mike Omar and Jerret Rosario in their first game and downing Wesley and Nelson in the winner’s bracket semis. Nelson and Wesley, before bowing to Tyce and Logan, prevailed over Bruce Berline and Russ Quinn to advance to the winner’s bracket semis.
Berline and Quinn, who eliminated Rosario and Omar to remain in contention, then met Wesley and Nelson anew for the second and last finals berth. Nelson and Wesley went on to reassert their might over Quinn and Berline to get a second crack at the Misters.
With Tyce and Logan having a 2-0 record, they just have to beat Wesley and Nelson only once to take the Qualifier 2 and they did, avenging their earlier loss to their rivals in the pool play.
Nelson and Wesley swept pool play, earning a 3-0 mark to get the top seeding in the playoffs, while the Misters had the second-best mark at 2-1.
The qualifiers, practices, and overall skill performance of the players will be considered in selecting the CNMI’s representatives to the Pacific Games that will run from July 7 to 20.
