FAQs on Group Health & Life Insurance Trust Fund
Question: Will employees continue to have health and life insurance coverage during furlough or termination?
Answer: Employees eligible for GHLI must work at least 20 hours a week. GHLI coverage will terminate 30 days after the effective date of furlough or termination of employment if the entire premium for coverage is paid.
Q. What options do furloughed or terminated employees have for health insurance coverage following separation from employment?
A. Separated employees may choose to apply for Medicaid upon termination of health insurance.
Q. Can employees re-apply when they return to work after?
A. Yes, as long as the employee returns to work at least 20 hours a week. Following resumption of employment, the employee will have 30 days to apply for health insurance and 60 days for life insurance.
Q. Can my retired/actively employed spouse add me to their health insurance if I was furloughed or terminated?
A. Yes, this would be considered a “qualifying event.” An Enrollment/Change form would need to be completed and submitted to Pacifica Insurance with a copy of the termination or furlough letter and documents required on the form. The Enrollment/Change form needs to be submitted within 30 days of being terminated. If you were enrolled as a dependent and the subscriber has been terminated, you may enroll yourself and your eligible dependents who were previously enrolled and lost coverage if you as a dependent are eligible to be enrolled in the Government health plan as either an Active Employee or Retiree. You must submit an enrollment form within 30 days of losing coverage.
Q. Will Aetna cover the cost of COVID-19 testing for members?
A. Aetna is waiving member cost-sharing for diagnostic testing related to COVID-19. This policy covers the cost of a physician-ordered test and the office, clinic or emergency room visit that results in the administration of or order for a COVID-19 test. The test can be done by any approved laboratory. Per guidance from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Department of Labor and the Department of the Treasury, the GHLI health plans must cover serological (antibody) testing with no cost- sharing.
Q. Will Aetna cover the cost of COVID-19 treatment for its members?
A. Aetna will waive member cost-sharing for inpatient admissions for treatment of COVID-19 or health complications associated with COVID-19. This policy is effective immediately for any such admission through June 1, 2020.
Q. Is Telemedicine covered?
A. From March 6, 2020 through June 4, 2020, Aetna is covering telemedicine visits at no cost for all GHLI members seeking visits for any reason. Aetna members should use telemedicine as their first line of defense in order to limit potential exposure in physician offices.
