Family wonders why cops not arresting Tank Beach thief who victimized 3 boys

The family of one of three boys who went fishing at Tank Beach in Kagman and lost two fishing rods and poles worth $800 to a car-riding thief last November wonders why the police have yet to arrest the suspect, despite knowing his identity.

A family member told Saipan Tribune that at least one boy already identified the suspect in a photo line-up shown to them by a police officer.

The family member said one of the boys also took clear photos of the suspect’s getaway car, so there’s no reason for the police not to identify the thief.

The boy even saw again the suspect recently hanging around at Tank Beach.

“We’re wondering why he’s not arrested. We’re kind of disappointed,” said the family member.

When asked about the case yesterday, Department of Public Safety spokesman Jason Tarkong said he would follow up with DPS Criminal Investigation.

The thief, described as about 60 years old, was with a woman who was carrying an infant, when the incident happened last Nov. 26.

The three boys, ages 14 years old, chased the suspect on their bicycles but he managed to escape aboard a blue sedan.

The boys were fishing and one of them had left to get more bait from a store. The two other friends left their fishing gear under a bush and left to catch up with their friend. As the three boys later proceeded to the beach, they saw the suspect taking their rods and poles from the bush. The suspect got into a car, prompting the boys to chase him with bicycles. The car-riding suspect later went back to the beach to pick up a woman and her baby.
