Former Corrections officer Mariano Q. Falig Jr. was arrested again, this time for allegedly slashing the tire and scratching with a knife the vehicle of his pregnant girlfriend and threatening to kill her outside a bar in Garapan on Wednesday night.

Falig, 36, was taken before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho on Friday for a bail hearing on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, criminal mischief, disturbing the peace, and domestic violence. A $10,000 cash bail was set and preliminary hearing will be on Dec. 4 at 9am.

Assistant public defender Benjamin Petersburg was appointed as counsel for Falig.

Police detective Flora Danica B. Aguon stated in her report that, according to the alleged victim, she and some co-workers had gone to the Abyss Bar and Restaurant on Wednesday. At 7pm, the alleged victim saw Falig looking at her through the window of the bar. She went outside and met Falig by Café at the Park, where she had parked her Toyota Siena.

Falig, who was allegedly holding a knife, accused her of having an affair and then allegedly slashed the front right tire of her vehicle. When Falig left the area, the alleged victim went back inside Abyss but later saw Falig through the window of Abyss at 9pm, signaling for her to come out.

She came out and saw Falig inside his vehicle that was parked by her car. Falig told her that their relationship is over and he then allegedly stuck out the knife he earlier used to threaten her and reversed his vehicle, scratching her car. Falig put his vehicle on drive and scratched her vehicle again. He allegedly did this—reversing and driving—to scratch her car three times.

Falig also allegedly threatened to kick her stomach and cut her neck. The alleged victim is five months pregnant with Falig’s child.

When she told him she was going to call the police, he got into his vehicle and reversed, scratching her car again with the knife and left the area.

The girlfriend said Falig has been abusing her many times in the past, but she never reported those incidents to the police.

She said she is afraid for her life and children if Falig is released from jail because he had allegedly threatened to kill her many times.

Last March, a federal court jury acquitted Falig of charges that he distributed methamphetamine or “ice” on Saipan.
