Falcons’ title conquest talk of town
After taking the back seat for nearly three weeks, the Talaabwogh Falcons returned to center stage and ended the Major division of the 2014 Saipan Little League Baseball with a 9-2 title win over the NSA Braves at Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.

Meanwhile, the “Tan Ge” ballfield was also the venue for the finals of the 2013-2014 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Girls Fast-pitch Softball League with Marianas High School notching two straight championships, too, following a 9-7 victory in Game 2 of their finals duel over three-time champion Saipan Southern High School last Monday.
Pitcher Florita Billy towed the Lady Dolphins to the title win with her two tag outs at the bottom of the seventh and last inning. Billy made the two defensive stops after throwing what could be a costly wild pitch. Billy and company forced Southern to a deciding Game 1 after cruising to a 13-2 victory in Game 1. The Lady Rays had a twice-to-beat advantage in the championship round after beating the Lady Dolphins in the winner’s bracket semifinals.
In other events last week, both the 2014 IT&E Mixed Doubles and Singles Badminton Tournament and 2014 DLX/IT&E Invitational Basketball League started their playoff rounds.
The respective semis casts in the men’s and women’s A, B, and C singles and mixed A, B, and C doubles in the badminton tournament were completed at the TSL Sports Complex, while the quarterfinal games in the DLX league started last week at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court.
Still in basketball, the DL Corp. caging continued their regular season games with San Antonio and Island Manpower keeping their unbeaten records after five games.
Matches in the M-League and the 2014 NMIFA Women’s League also pushed through last week at the Oleai Sports Complex Field.
