IT&E slugger stays on top; Falcons pitcher moves up
The Major division of the 2014 Saipan Little League Baseball League has the same batting leader, but a different frontrunner in pitching.
IT&E’s Philip Kapileo kept the top spot in the batting race, while the Falcons’ Max Pangelinan grabbed the No. 1 position from IP&E Rockies’ Tyrese Camacho, as SLLB, Inc. released its statistics leaders as of Feb. 23.
Kapileo was 9-for-14 after last Sunday’s games for a field-best batting average of .642. He leads 14 other players, including new second placer Justin Cangco, who plays for the Falcons and has a batting average of .625 off a 10-for-16 performance at bat.
Three other players posted at least .600 batting average with Cangco’s teammate Aven Evangelista recording .615 (8-for-13) and tying the Braves Jose Tudela and another Falcons bet Angel Iguel tallying .600 with his 9-for-15 clip.
Completing the batting leaders list are Camacho (.562), IT&E’s Spencer Dickinson (.533), the Red Sox’s Kiana Aldan (.529), the Braves’ Robin Sablan (.500) and Vicente Camacho (.500), McDonald’s Sun Joon Tenorio (.500), IP&E’s Dai Podziewski (.500), JPO Enforcers’ Rikko Lizama (.461), McDonald’s Jared Reyes (.454) and Austin Reyes (.454), and Laolao Bay’s Thomas Agulto (.454). The batting leaders are based on 11 or more times at bat.
In the pitching contest, which was based on at least 11 innings pitched, Pangelinan recorded an ERA of 0.90. In 11 innings, he only gave up two runs. The Falcons ace is ahead of Laolao Bay’s Justin Celis (2.18), the Enforcers’ Kenneth Kaipat (2.82), Dickinson (4.80), and the Red Sox’s Jode Reyes (6.31).
Dickinson leads the division in strikeouts with 31, while Jode Reyes occupies the No. 2 spot with 27. Camacho and Celis have 26 and 22, respectively.
In other categories, Podziewski is still on top of the runs division with 15, beating the 12 of Camacho, while Iguel has 10 so far. In the home run race, Thomas Agulto has two to prevail against five others, who have one each, while Aldan has the most RBIs with 10. In triples, Cangco, Robin Sablan, and Juan Lizama are tied on top with two each, while Kyle Kapileo of IT&E is alone at the No. 1 spot in doubles race with his four.
