The Talaabwogh Falcons and the Kagman Little Legals are in a tight race for the Majors division pennant in the 2018 Saipan Little League Baseball.
Both teams are undefeated in six games and will collide in a much-awaited match this Sunday. The Falcons won against the Natibu Sports Association Braves, the Bridge Capital Pirates, the Twins, McDonald’s, and Bank of Saipan. The Little Legals scored wins over the Pirates, McDonald’s, Cubs, Twins, Comets, and Braves.
The Legals were aiming for their seventh straight win last Sunday as they were supposed to play against Bank of Saipan, however heavy rains canceled all games, including in the Minor and Junior divisions. Regardless of the results of their anticipated duel this weekend, both the Falcons and Legals are already assured of playoffs berths and the only thing left to be settled is who wins the pennant and who ends up in second place.
Cardi Borja, G-Boy Pangelinan, and Gunner Sablan are three of the reasons the Little Legals are tied on top with the Falcons, as they are among the batting and pitching leaders based on the latest statistics released by the Saipan Little League last April 2.
Borja is the top batter with a .693 average, followed by Pangelinan’s .625, while Sablan is at .444 with the latter leading the league in pitching, as he has yet to be charged with an earned run in 13 innings pitched. Pangelinan has a 1.00 ERA in six innings.
The three Little Legals players also figured prominently in other individual stats—runs scored, doubles, triples, RBIs and home run with Pangelinan joining the Pirates’ Charlie McDonald and Deandrey Cruz, and the Falcons’ Noah Aguon on the list of players that have a scored a homer this season.
Sablan, on the other hand, has 35 strikeouts for second place behind the 43 of the Braves’ Jylon Sablan.
Meanwhile, the Falcons’ Chris Pangelinan (.500) and Aguon (.474) are also on the batting leaders list with the latter joining Christopher Gonzales in the pitching rankings. Gonzales has a 0.85 ERA for third, while Aguon has 2.96 ERA for eighth place, and the former also had 24 strikeouts behind the 25 of McDonald’s’ Dylan Santos. Patty Mendiola had 20, while Deandrey Cruz and Isidro Lizama had 18 each.
