Ex-Rota senator, retired Rota cop file candidacies
19, mostly from Rota, file candidacies so far
Former Rota senator Jovita Maratita Taimanao and retired Rota police officer Joel Gogue Charfauros filed yesterday their candidacies as independents for Senate seats.
Taimanao, accompanied by some supporters, submitted her petition for nomination at the Commonwealth Election Commission in Susupe yesterday afternoon.
It is a crowded race on Rota. Seven are running for two Rota Senate seats, five are battling for the mayoral seat, and three will be duking it out for a lone House position.
CEC acting executive director Kayla Igitol said for Charfauros, he filed his candidacy before CEC Rota commissioner Leilani I. Manglona.
Manglona then notified the CEC office yesterday morning about Charfauros’ submission of nomination.
Last Friday, Malcolm Jason Omar filed his candidacy as an independent for House of Representatives under precinct 4.
Precinct 4 covers Tanapag, San Roque, and Capitol Hill areas.
Last Friday, Lucia Songsong Manglona also filed her candidacy as a non-partisan for the Rota Municipal Council.
Nineteen, mostly from Rota, have filed their candidacies so far since the submission of petitions for nomination started last July 9.
Aug. 8 is the deadline for submission of nominating petitions and candidacy.
