Ex-lawmaker is new Zoning board chair
Former lawmaker Mariano Taitano is the new chairman of the CNMI Zoning Board, a position that was held by Diego C. Blanco since 2012.
During the board’s meeting at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe Wednesday night, director Ignacio Demapan nominated Taitano as chairman.
All directors voted for his nomination.
Early this year, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres accepted the courtesy resignation of Blanco as Zoning board chairman.
In a separate interview, Taitano said he will see to it that everything is done appropriately in the enforcement of zoning laws.
He is aware of some concerns about Zoning’s enforcement responsibilities, that many businesses and people have been rebuilding after Super Typhoon Yutu’s destruction last October but that does not mean that Zoning enforcement officers are not allowed to go out and advice the community about Zoning laws.
Taitano said Zoning must see to it that everybody complies with the laws.
During the election of officers, the board voted for Joe Ayuyu Jr. as vice chairman, Patrick Reyes as secretary, and Tatiana Babauta as treasurer.
The other board members are Demapan and former lawmaker Francisco C. Aguon.
