Former Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board member Eric San Nicolas was arrested for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol on Saipan last Saturday.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Jacqueline Rae confirmed San Nicolas’ arrest yesterday, but said that she has no further details about the incident.

As of press time, Saipan Tribune was still trying to get comments from San Nicolas.

Rae said a woman called DPS last Saturday about a theft incident, but when officers arrived at the scene, San Nicolas was not there.

Rae said San Nicolas came back a short time later and returned the items to the alleged victim.

Rae said police officers, however, cited San Nicolas with DUI at that time.

The DPS spokesperson said she does not have the complete report yet.

San Nicolas used to serve as vice principal for Tinian High School before he became CUC board member. He has expressed his intent to run as an independent candidate for Tinian Senate at the Nov. 6 general election.
