Eleno B. Valdez, a 44-year-old ex-convict, was slapped with a six-month prison term for forging several stolen checks and using them to buy goods at different stores on Saipan.

Valdez pleaded guilty to theft last week as part of a plea agreement. The remaining eight charges of forgery were dropped.

Associate Judge David A. Wiseman sentenced Valdez to three years imprisonment, all suspended except for six months.

After completing the prison term, Valdez will be placed on supervised probation for three years.

Valdez was ordered to pay a total of $2,073 in restitution to the victims—LJ Store in Garapan, Twins Super Market in Dandan, Ming Yang Store in San Vicente, Blue Sky Store in San Antonio, L&Q Store in Garapan, New Chang Ming Market, and to Maria P. Blas.

The defendant was also required to perform 300 hours of community service.

Valdez was allowed to start serving the prison term at the Department of Corrections on Sept. 14, 2015.
