James Anthony Palacios Webb, who was convicted in April for stealing a gas credit card and useing it to by gas and other items, was arrested again on Thursday, this time for allegedly checking in at a hotel using a forged check in the amount of $319.25.

Webb, 24, also allegedly admitted to receiving several blank checks from Summer Holiday Hotel and writing at least seven checks amounting to over $400 at different stores on Saipan.

At a hearing on Friday, the court maintained Webb’s $6,000 cash bail. Preliminary hearing will be on Dec. 23 at 9am.

According to a complaint filed by police detective Daniel T. Joab, police arrested Webb after the Paradise Hotel reported last Wednesday that the suspect checked in using a bad check.

Joab said investigation showed that Webb checked in at the Paradise Hotel last Dec. 12 at 4am. The suspect used a check from Summer Holiday Hotel to pay for a room, but the staff at Paradise learned later that Webb was not an employee of Summer Holiday Hotel and that the check had been forged.

According to the hotel staff who received the check, Webb showed his driver’s license in presenting the check.

Webb was with two male companions at that time, the hotel staff said.

Police recovered from Webb a key for his room at the Paradise Hotel.

Webb identified his male companion, who allegedly stayed with him in the hotel room for two to three days.

Last April, Webb pleaded guilty to a count of theft as part of a plea deal with the government. Associate Judge Joseph Camacho sentenced Webb to the full maximum of one year in prison, the first two months to be served day for day without the possibility of parole. Webb was given credit for 69 days of time served. He was placed on supervised probation for three years.

In that case, Webb stole the credit card of the KZNM/KCMI radio station in January last year and purchased gas and other items in the amount of $94.21 at Shell Highway Express in Gualo Rai.
