The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Committee for Guam and the CNMI said the nomination period for the 2023 Freedom Award is ongoing and will be until Dec. 31, 2022.

The prestigious award is the highest U.S. government honor for employers, and is meant to applaud and recognize all employers who provide exceptional support to their Guard and Reserve employees.

With nominations extending nationwide, all applications will undergo a thorough vetting process. Senior defense and military officials made up of a national selection board will select the finalists for the award. The 15 finalists will travel to the ceremony’s location to receive the Freedom Award from the U.S. Secretary of Defense.

In an interview with ESGR Guam-CNMI Area chair Rita A. Sablan, Ed.D., she said “We hope that our service members here in the CNMI will take time to really recognize their employers and nominate them for the freedom award, which is the highest recognition [for employers]. I know in the past we had nominees here in the CNMI so we do hope to get more nominations in,” she stated, adding that although the nominations will be very competitive, “you’ll never know upon nomination, your employer could be selected.”

Sablan said that not only does she encourage all service members within the CNMI to nominate their employers, but that they can always reach out to the ESGR here in the CNMI, as they are very willing to give needed guidance and help in the process.

Nomination forms are available online at freedomaward.mil, and in addition to filling out the form, it is highly encouraged to give a written description of the nominee and the support that he/she rendered to service members within their employment. All nominations must come from a Guard or Reserve member who is employed by the organization they are nominating, or from a family member of the Guard or Reserve member.
