Blue Haus Ali’i’s Elmer Esdrelon and Islander’s Kelvin Fitial took the coveted Most Valuable Player awards in the 2015 San Antonio Community Action Network Basketball League.

Fitial won the regular season MVP for leading Islander’s title conquest in the east division of the league, while Esdrelon was named Finals MVP following his 21-point performance in their 57-49 title victory against Pacific Islands Club last Saturday. Esdrelon received the Finals MVP trophy during the awards ceremony after the Blue Haus-PIC finale last weekend, while league commissioner Boy Garcia got the plum on behalf of Fitial.

Fitial and the Islanders finished the round-robin regular season with second-best 5-2 record and defeated Maplas in the semis and the favored MJD Enterprises in the finals to rule the east division. Fitial averaged 19.5 points in those two wins, making 28 in their semis victory against Maplas and 11 in the division finals versus MJD.

Esdrelon, on the other hand, was the top-scorer in Blue Haus’ title win over PIC. He knocked in two triples in the crucial 12-2 run in the fourth quarter to help Blue Haus foil PIC’ comeback bid.

Esdrelon’s steady performance in the winner-take-all finale made up for his lackluster game in the west division finals against GMJ/IKKI. Esdrelon had a quiet 11 markers against the division champion, failing to score a single field goal in the fourth quarter where GMJ/IKKI fought back.

Meanwhile, the league also handed trophies to members of the Mythical Team and the Best Coach. Esdrelon made it to the elite selection and was joined by PIC’s Jack Aranda and Darwin Barbo, GMJ/IKKI’s Juan Camacho, and Cholos’ Gerald Laguindam. Dan Ray Hernandez was the Best Coach.
