Employers to hear from USCIS today on CW update

“What are the challenges faced by U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services before approving a CW-1 petition?” “How long does it take to approve a CW-1?” “Can USCIS make it less burdensome for employers to provide 100 copies of the same document to comply with a request for evidence?”
These are some of the questions that employers will get a chance to directly ask USCIS today when the CNMI Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management hosts a forum with USCIS regional director David Gulick at the Napu Room of Pacific Islands Club in San Antonio from 9am to 10:30am.
The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will also host a luncheon forum with USCIS’ Gulick from 11:30am to 1pm today at Azucena I and II at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan in Garapan.
The Chamber said that Gulick will provide members a status report on the ongoing CNMI CW-1 visa application process and address current concerns from CNMI employers.
Only 13 percent or 1,507 of 11,695 foreign workers petitioned have so far been approved, almost five months since the deadline of Nov. 28, 2011.
Some businesses also want to know from USCIS the requirements for processing “new” employees, and whether the last employer of record or current employer is responsible for the repatriation costs of terminated or resigned foreign workers.
The Chamber asked members to submit questions beforehand. But there should be additional time at the end of Gulick’s presentation for more Q&A.
The CW-1 immigration forum is $20 for Chamber members and $30 for non-members.
