The Emon Lodge No.179 Basketball League 40 and Above Masters Division kicks off tonight at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Opening ceremonies start at 6pm, followed by the first game at 6:30pm. Seven teams are vying for this season’s championship: Bluehaus, Armatech, Pacific Islands Club Chefs, Tan Holdings D &Q Degree, Hawaiian Rock, Mariana Resort & Spa, and I Love Saipan Ol’Aces.

Bluehaus will be led by Junar Guiab, Edsel Mendoza, Bruce Berline, Tony Diaz, Gus and Felix Palacios. Armatech will be led by Bong Malasarte, while PIC Chefs has Rommel Bartolo and Jun Tabora on its roster. D &Q Degree will be led by 3-point shooter Mark Rabago, while Hawaiian Rock is anchored by Jerry Lopez. Mariana Resort will lean on Boy Garcia and Jorge De Guzman, while I Love Saipan will pin its hopes on Leo Ruluked, Junior Rengul, and Ol’Aces standout Peter Camacho.

“We will be seeing a lot of good basketball for the 40 and above age group. This is like bringing back the old school basketball,” league coordinator Abner Venus said in a press statement.

League organizers held a technical meeting last Friday at the conference room of the Ada gym, paving the way for the opening of the competition tonight. (PR)
