Eloy, Heinz to square off in runoff race

Share

It’s going to be a gubernatorial runoff race between the Inos-Torres tandem and Hofschneider-Yumul team, based on the unofficial tally of the Commonwealth Election Commission.

Inos and Torres, the Republican Party standard-bearer, garnered a total of 6,342 votes, while the independent tandem of Hofschneider and Yumul got a total of 4,501 votes. A total of 13,798 votes were cast in this general election.

This means that Inos got only 46.6 percent of the total votes cast, just about 4 percentage points less than the required 50-percent-plus-one rule that would have resulted in Inos being declared the winner outright, preventing a runoff election.

No date has been set yet on when the runoff election will take place.
