Elims topnotcher Team X8 still alive
Elimination round topnotcher Team X8 kept its title hopes alive in the 2015 Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association Indoor League summer season after a walkover win in last Tuesday night’s matches at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Team X8, which dropped an earlier match against Four, won by default against Set 2 Kill to set up a date with the The Power Express tonight 8pm. Four and Division of Youth Services were the two other teams that made it to the Final Four and will play against each other also at 8pm tonight.
Four, which remains undefeated in the double elimination playoffs, and DYS are in the winners bracket, while X8 and Power dropped to the losers group.
The winner of the Four-DYS match will earn an automatic berth to next Tuesday’s finals, June 30, while the loser will challenge the victor of the Power-X8 game at 9pm also on Thursday night.
The first team that enters the championship match enjoys a twice-to-beat edge. Game 1 of the finals is on June 30 at 8pm and if needed, the finalists will again play at 9pm.
DYS boosted its finals bid and marched on to the winners bracket after escaping with a 25-20, 23-25, 15-13 triumph over Power. Power stayed alive after eliminating Managaha Express, 25-18, 25-12. Four also won by forfeit against Set 2 Kill.
The playoffs started last week where regular season topnotcher Team X8 got almost eliminated, but managed to cling on in the loser’s bracket after going 1-1 in the double elimination format.
