LITERARY NOOK
Election Times Reaction Rhymes
My inspiration for “Political Pedigree” comes from Emily Dickinson’s poem, The Pedigree of Honey:
The pedigree of Honey Does not concern the Bee,
Nor lineage of Ecstasy Delay the Butterfly
On spangled journeys to the peak
Of some perceiveless thing —
The right of way to Tripoli
A more essential thing.
Political Pedigree? Minus and Plus
The pedigree of certain high-ranking politicians
does not concern SOME of their supporters
office workers, laborers, electrical technicians
every day sycophants and gossip reporters
filling in ballots they think of only one thing
will the winners give them a new and better job
will their horse remember them with more bling
will they remain an overweight bloated mob.
SOME voters want leaders to do the right thing
they are not very concerned with a pedigree
they work hard for their family not for bling
they ignore nepotism and partisan enmity
they vote with conscience and save face
they make the U.S. and CNMI a better place.
Recusal? Abusal? A Brief Perusal
It seems everyday when I read the news
someone else has said they will recuse
about that there are many different views
so I thought I’d give it a brief peruse
Recusal reports add up more and more
constantly more step aside and departed
and say my relative or I once worked for…
don’t remember how long or when I started
Recused perhaps just about anyone
who knew or saw or even thought
that an unjust trial was being run
what type of lessons were being taught
Poets shed light in their own poetic way
on both sides at times of current opinion
with caustic and reasoned words in play
nonpartisan poetic license has dominion
Well that’s about it for me I too will recuse
may the most honest candidates team win
by conscientious voting you pick and choose.
