Edvalson, Barman rule 12U XC championships
It might as well be Groundhog Day in the 12U division of the 2021 PSS/NMA Cross Country Championships last Saturday at the old Saipan Country Club golf course behind Saipan Vegas.
This, after third qualifier winners Akeen Edvalson of Brilliant Star School and Sari Barman of Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School repeated when it really counted and took home gold medals after finishing first in the 2.5-kilometer race for 12-and-under boys and girls, respectively.
Edvalson was the first to cross the finish line in his age group in 5.41. He was followed by Saipan International School’s Finn Altizer with Tinian Elementary School’s Jun Young Sep coming in third in 6.04.
Despite finishing second, Altizer still anchored SIS to the team win with help from Lyam Villagomez, Keoni Ruszala, and Juwon Lee.
Barman topped the girls 12U with a run of 6.04. She was followed by Saipan Community School’s Alyssa Brasuel with SIS’ Faith Arriola completing the Top 3 in 6.36. Arriola still led SIS to the team championship along with Eliza Culp, Lucy Woo, Beatrice Gross, and Kate Manglona.
Results of the 9U elementary school individual medal race will be published in tomorrow’s issue of Saipan Tribune.
The Public School System partnered with Northern Marianas Athletics, the governing body of athletics in the CNMI, to organize track and field as well as cross country events in the 2021-22 school year.
