Four games in Day 2 of the IT&E Doubles and Mixed Doubles Badminton Competition 2016 went the distance with the pair of Deether Edralin and Jenine Savellano recording one of them and registering the toughest win in last Saturday’s action at the TSL Sports Complex.
Edralin and Savellano faltered in the extended opening game against Daniel Macario and Hannah Choi, 22-24, in the mixed doubles A, but remained in contention after pulling off a 22-20 victory in the second. In the third game, the opposing teams went back and forth before Savellano and Edralin escaped with a 21-18 triumph.
Edralin and Savellano played twice in Day 2 with their other match done after only two games as they swept Hapi Gabriel and Marlene Peraja, 21-9, 21-9.
Meanwhile, other pairs who earned victories in three games were Glenn Buultjens and Nathan Guerrero, Patrick Fernandez and Vilma Reyes, and Oh Im Boh and Rowena Sison.
Oh and Sison fell to Jeff Riman and Loida Ito in the first game, 20-22, in the mixed doubles B, but grabbed the win after prevailing in the last two, 21-16, 21-10. Reyes and Fernandez played in the mixed doubles C and slipped past Hajin Oh and Miles Rodriguez, 21-5, 17-21, 21-15. In the men’s doubles AB, Buultjens and Guerrero edged Jordan Pangilinan and Joel Ortega, 21-15, 14-21, 21-19.
In the two other mixed doubles AB matches, Macario and Oh Im Boh and Andreau Galvez and Rodwealth Espana took only two games to dispatch their respective foes. Oh Im Boh and Macario dominated Macoi Aguda and Chris Hilario, 21-16, 21-14, while Espana and Galvez won over Patrick Jake Fieldad and Edwin Montoya, 21-13, 21-10.
Espana got his second victory in Day 2 as he paired with Shirley Kim in beating Montoya and Jaja Bocago in the mixed doubles B, 21-18, 21-15. Hilario, on the other hand, won his other match as he teamed up with Windy Fernandez in defeating Father Charlie Borja and Elna Curate, 21-14, 21-15, in the mixed doubles B tiff.
In other results, Malou Malasarte went 2-for-2 last Saturday, recording her first win in the women’s doubles A as she and daughter Nicole topped Kim and Pereja, 21-15, 24-22. Malou’s other victory came in the mixed doubles A when she and Galvez swept Buultjens and Sison, 21-15, 21-14.
Completing the list of winners in Day 2 were Jun Lee and Joel Ortega, Julie Lee and Erica Jung, and Henry and Hajin Oh.
