It’s Back to School!

Eco Camp partners with public schools

Mariana Resort and Spa and Marianas Trekking have teamed up to provide a free summer camp for Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School students until public school begins.

“We wanted to help and we thought one of the best ways we could do that was to extend our summer program and make it free for kids nearby. The principal at GTC helped find a class of kids that will be together when school starts so we are just happy to help them get a head start. We are really excited to have them at Eco Camp and we hope it helps some of the families who are busy rebuilding after the storm,” said Chris Nelson, owner of Marianas Trekking.

This week a class of second graders are attending camp and next week a new class of third graders will attend. Activities include snorkeling, kayaking, swimming, arts and crafts, hiking, and field games. A buffet lunch is also provided free of charge for the kids by Mariana Resort.

“Mariana Resort and Spa is honored and excited to participate in this program, especially dealing with the children of our northern education partners and we look forward to participating in such programs for many years to come,” said Gloria Cavanagh, general manager of Mariana Resort and Spa.

Mariana Resort and Spa and Marianas Trekking have been offering Eco Camp at the resort for the past 16 years. It is the longest running summer camp on Saipan and is also the designated provider of camp services in Micronesia for the Army Reserve Enrichment Camp. (Marianas Trekking)
