The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. is pleased to share about the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program, under the Division of Public Health’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau. With the assistance of the Public School System’s audiologist, the program was able to bring into the CNMI an Ear, Nose, Throat specialist, Dr. Charles Weingarten, from the mainland. Weingarten earned his medical degree from Tulane University, School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, and completed his residency at Northwestern University Medical School, Chicago, Illinois.
Weingarten is a certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. His specialty interests include the evaluation and treatment of sinus disease, the treatment of pediatric patients for chronic or recurrent ear infections, adenoid and tonsil disorders, as well as head and neck masses.

During his short visit, Weingarten was able to see over 60 infants and children, including 40 adults. He also provided surgery services to patients in critical need. A discussion on how to create a regular and continued ENT care is ongoing with Public Health. Anyone with ENT issue should first see their primary care physicians and see if a referral for specialist services is warranted. For more information, contact the Public Health at 236-8715. (CHCC)
