Eagles continue to soar high in boys volleyball

Grace Christian Academy kept its perfect record after sweeping Marianas High School’s QT’s in their game last Monday in the 2011-2012 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Boys Volleyball League at the MHS Gymnasium.

The Eagles are unbeaten in 10 games. They started strong against MHS QT’s, taking the opening set, 25-12. Then in the second set, GCA prevailed anew, 25-19, for the automatic win. The Eagles went on to complete the sweep after a 15-9 victory in the third set.

With its 10-0 record, GCA holds a two-game lead over Saipan International School, while MHS QT’s evened its card to 5-5. SIS bested Kagman High School and comfortably remains in second place with its 9-2 record.

The Geckos edged Kagman in the opening set, 25-21, for the early advantage and claimed the outright win after a 25-15 victory in the second set. The Ayuyus avoided a shutout loss when they took the third set, 15-9. Kagman is now in third place in the team standings, tied with MHS QT’s.

In other results, Saipan Southern High School split its twin games last Monday. The Manta Rays first faced MHS Fins and lost the game early when the latter won the first two sets, 25-12, 25-15, to improve to a 4-7 record. Southern prevailed in the third set, 15-5, but still absorbed its eighth loss.

In their second game of the day against the MHS KFC Fins, the Manta Rays topped the opening set, 25-17, but dropped the second, 26-28. In the deciding set, Southern pulled off a 15-13 win for its third victory in the season. MHS KFC Fins has yet to break into the win column after nine tries.

The season continues today at 4pm with MHS QT’s tipping off against the KFC Fins on the north court and Kagman taking on Southern on the south end. Then at 5pm, GCA clashes with the MHS Awesome Fins on the north side, while SIS meets the KFC Fins on the south court.
