A Senate committee held yesterday a public hearing on Tinian to review two of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres’ appointees to the Marianas Public Land Trust Fund board.

Torres appointed past lawmakers, former senator Maria Frica Pangelinan and former representative Martin B. Ada, to the MPLT and yesterday was the public hearing for the appointments held through Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Governmental Investigations, chaired by Sen. Francisco Cruz (R-Tinian).

Though Ada and Pangelinan represented Saipan in the MPLT board, Cruz said the public hearing was held on Tinian in order to afford its residents a chance to comment on the appointments.

According to Cruz, none of those who participated in the public hearing opposed the nominations. Cruz noted that of those who participated, several members of the Tinian leadership supported the appointment, such as Tinian Mayor Joey Patrick San Nicolas, Tinian gaming commission vice chair Joe Kiyoshi, Tinian Municipal Council secretary Tony Borja, Tinian Municipal Council former chair Reynaldo Cing, Department of Public Lands advisory board member David Evangelista, and MPLT board trustee Tinian representative Peter Cruz.
