Three sister hotels under the E-Land Group and its local holding company, Micronesia Resort Inc., donated 445 aid packages and other grocery items yesterday to the CNMI government for distribution to families in need, turning over the donation in a ceremony at the façade of the shuttered Coral Ocean Point resort.
Kensington Hotel Saipan, Pacific Islands Club Saipan, and Coral Ocean Golf Resort partnered with the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs to facilitate the distribution of the grocery packs to the families through the CNMI Nutrition Assistance Program.
Each package contains a pack of rice, different canned goods, toilet paper, butane gas, and soap.
Lindsay Ahn, Corporate Responsibility manager of Micronesia Resort Inc., said the company came up with the idea of making the donation due to the financial and economic crisis facing the CNMI community due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We think of this donation as a way of saying that we are in this together,” she said.
Brian Shin, chief executive officer of Micronesia Resort Inc., said this is the most challenging situation in his entire career in this industry.
“Even though the business is going through the severest downturn, we will never leave the community unprioritized. I feel our hearts are connected closer despite the negativity and sadness going around the world, and we would like to do what we can to bring a little bit of warmth and hope to people in the CNMI,” he said.
Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, who was present during the distribution, said the donation “will help families get through the day.”
PIC, one of E-Land Group’s hotels, is already serving as a quarantine site.
