DYS sets public hearings on block grant, LIHEAP
The Department of Community & Cultural Affairs Division of Youth Services and the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program will be conducting a public hearing on the Social Services Block Grant and the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program state/model plans on the following dates/times.
• Tinian: Sept. 15, 2015, 5pm to 6pm, Tinian Elementary School
• Rota: Sept. 17, 2015, 6pm to 7pm, Sinapalo Youth Center
• Saipan: Sept. 21, 2015, 6pm to 7pm, Kobler Youth Center
The basic programs that would be implemented under the Social Services Block Grant Consolidation for the CNMI are based on achieving the following goals: self-support, self-sufficiency, protective services, preventing or reducing inappropriate institutional care and securing other forms of care.
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, more popularly known as LIHEAP, is a federally funded program designed to assist eligible low-income households in meeting home cooling needs. LIHEAP alleviates home energy burdens through the provision of energy assistance, energy education, home weatherization and intervention with energy providers on behalf of low-income households.
