DYS, Hi-Five rout U20 foes

  The pair of games in the U20 division of the 2012 UFO Docomo Pacific Cup had lopsided results with DYS/Bayani and Hi-Five/ POWER winning over their separate foes last Saturday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The league-leading Bayani/DYS crushed DeMolay, 89-34, dominating the game right at the very start, as the latter struggled with its offensive game.

DeMolay was held to 8 points in the opening quarter, while Bayani/DYS had a balance scoring with six of its player combining for 21 points for the team’s early double-digit lead. Only three players made it to the scoreboard for DeMolay and no player hit more than one basket in the first period.

DeMolay continued their lackluster showing on offense in the second canto, while Bayani/DYS still drew points from every player it fielded in the game to erect a 46-19 halftime advantage.

The bad shooting night was not over yet for DeMolay, as it nailed only 6 points in the third period-its lowest output in a quarter. By the end of the third canto, Bayani/DYS more than doubled DeMolay’s production for a whopping 63-25 lead.

In the fourth quarter, there was no way DeMolay could catch up with Bayani/DYS or even slice the deficit to a decent number, as the latter kept its balance scoring, while the former was limited to another single-digit-production (9 points).

Nevim Salem paced Bayani/DYS with his 19 markers, while Bryle Alegre added 12, and Jack Aranda and Paul Mariano chipped in 10 apiece. Four more players contributed at least seven points each for Bayani/DYS, which kept its unbeaten record (3-0)

Prince Factor top-scored for the winless DeMolay (0-3) with 12, while Julienne Gotengco logged 10. The rest of DeMolay players were held to one field goal apiece.

Hi-Five/POWER 70, AON/Boholano 46

In the final game last weekend, Hi-Five/POWER also clobbered AON/Boholano.

Hi-Five/POWER pulled way at the start of the second half when it held AON/Boholano to 7 points in the third period, turning a 31-26 lead to a 50-33 advantage, entering the fourth quarter.

AON/Boholano was without a field goal for more than six minutes in the third period and settled for three free throws before making two baskets in the closing minutes of that frame. Gary Macahito, Reynald Cabaltica, and M.J. Aldan teamed up in Hi-Five/POWER’s breakaway in the third quarter, scoring 6 points apiece in that canto.

Aldan added two more triples in the fourth quarter, while the rest of his teammates also hit their target to complete Hi-Five/POWER’s domination of AON and improve to a 2-1 record. AON/Boholano fell to a 1-3 mark.

Cabaltica led Hi-Five/POWER with his 18 markers, while Macahito and Aldan finished with 14 and 12, respectively.
