Drop everything and read today!
Today marks the national Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) Day and the public is encouraged to participate in the first islandwide DEAR Day social media campaign.
All over the United States, schools and libraries will band together today to celebrate DEAR Day.
This year’s celebration will be different for the CNMI because an islandwide social media campaign to encourage the act of dropping everything, picking up a book, and taking moment to read will be launched as the highlight.
According to Saipan Southern High School librarian Rosalyn Ajoste, the idea is to get everyone in the Commonwealth to drop whatever it is they may be doing, pick up any appropriate reading material, and snap a photo of themselves reading it on social media with the hashtag #WakeUpAndReadCNMI.
“We’re going to wake up, take a picture of ourselves reading…and we’re just going to bombard social media with it,” she said.
Ajoste said pictures can be posted on any social media outlet, be it Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, blogs, etc.
The campaign will start as early as 12am this morning so the entire community has a chance, for one day only, to showcase the power of community and the power of reading.
