The CNMI Department of Public Safety issued an advisory last Thursday to alert the public of a training exercises on Capital Hill and for the public not to be alarmed.

Prior to the advisory, there were rumors of a hostage incident on Capital Hill and word about this alleged hostage-taking spread quickly on social media. DPS then released the advisory, saying it is conducting officer training exercises and will continue until planned scenarios have been completed and carried out.

“We ask the public to not be alarmed if you hear any loud pops or see smoke in the immediate area. This is part of the planned officer training,” the advisory stated. “Please call 911 anytime to report a crime or an emergency. Your CNMI law enforcement officers care for the health and wellbeing of you and your family.” (PR)
