DPS sets sobriety checkpoints on Saipan
The Department of Public Safety would like to inform the general public that the DPS Traffic Section will be conducting sobriety checkpoints on the dates and time listed below:
Aug. 24: The first sobriety checkpoint will be on Beach Road Garapan to Beach Road Chalan Piao from 8pm to 10pm. The second sobriety checkpoint will be from 11pm to 1am the next day, Aug. 25, from Chalan Pale Arnold Road, Puerto Rico south to Chalan Lau Lau.
Aug. 26: The first sobriety checkpoint will be from Chalan Monsignor Guerrero, San Jose to Chalan Monsignor Guerrero Road, Dan Dan, from 9pm to 11pm. The second sobriety check point will on Beach Road Garapan to Chalan Pale Arnold, Chalan Lau Lau from 10pm to 12pm the next day, Aug. 27.
Sept. 1: The first checkpoint will be on Beach Road, Garapan south to Beach Road, Susupe from 8pm to 10pm. The second checkpoint will be on Chalan Pale Arnold, Garapan south to Chalan Pale Arnold, Chalan Lau Lau from 11pm to 1am the next day, Sept. 2.
Each DUI sobriety checkpoint will last at least 75 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes). This activity is part of the Department of Public Safety’s effort to Deter, Detect, Drowsy and Distracted Driving and Apprehend impaired drivers, and to ensure that all passengers are wearing proper restraining devices, seatbelts, or car seats.
