The Department of Public Safety is promoting 60 police officers and personnel, according to DPS Commissioner Robert Guerrero.

In an interview yesterday, Guerrero said Gov. Ralph DLG Torres already signed his recommendation to promote over 50 police officers with ranks of police officer 1, 2, and 3.

Guerrero said the promotion is in line with Torres’ commitment to increase the salaries of police officers.

He said covered by the reallocation or promotion are the ones making below $25,000 annually.

Guerrero said the promotion will take effect possibly in a week because they are just waiting actions from the Department of Finance and the Office of Personnel Management.

The commissioner said he is happy to promote the officers because the last promotion happened at DPS was way back in 1991.

Guerrero said his next target is to promote those officers having the rank of sergeant.

He said those getting promotion are not for Saipan personnel only, but that Tinian and Rota DPS are undergoing salary adjustment or promotion as well.
