DPS places cop on restricted duty
The Department of Public Safety has placed a police officer on restricted duty pending the result of an investigation into his arrest last weekend for crashing his car in Koblerville while allegedly drunk.
Acting DPS spokesman Sgt. Jason Tarkong confirmed with Saipan Tribune yesterday that Dixon Kwon was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, and two other traffic offenses.
Saipan Tribune first reported Kwon’s arrest on Tuesday, citing multiple sources.
Tarkong said Kwon was released on Sunday afternoon, hours after the incident.
Kwon, a DUI officer, was off-duty when the crash happened on Saturday night. His girlfriend, who was his passenger, was injured.
DPS received a call on Saturday at 10:45pm about a car crash in Koblerville.
Tarkong said preliminary investigation showed that Kwon was driving his Nissan car with a female passenger when the vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree on As Gonno Road near the Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort.
When officers arrived, Kwon was not at the scene but the injured passenger was, Tarkong said. Officers later found him walking at the COP area, apparently to get help.
Tarkong said police arrested Kwon for DUI and other offenses.
Meanwhile, Tarkong said Aghilimal R. Faisao, a 21-year-old police cadet, will not be included at the graduation ceremony for police cadets today, Friday. Tarkong said DPS terminated Faisao.
Faisao was arrested on Sunday for allegedly not paying for food he ate at a gas station in Chalan Kiya.
