Police have already identified the occupants of a car that was involved in a hit-and-run incident that mowed down a female tourist who was walking with a friend on the shoulder of Beach Road near Mascot Auto Parts in southern Garapan.

Asked for an update about the case, Department of Public Safety spokesperson Jacqueline Rae Shepard disclosed yesterday that they are waiting for the green light from the Office of the Attorney General to proceed with an arrest.

Shepard did not elaborate.

DPS earlier disclosed that police have identified persons of interest.

Last June 12, Shepard said after an extensive search, police officers found the car—a four-door turquoise Toyota Corolla—and impounded it. A “person of interest” is not necessarily a suspect and is usually not arrested.

The incident happened in the afternoon last June 8.

Police investigation showed that two Chinese female tourists were walking on the northbound shoulder of Beach Road and while approaching Mascot Auto Parts, the car, which was traveling north, struck one of them.

The car did not stop.

The 25-year-old victim was transported to the Commonwealth Health Center, where she was treated and released with minor injuries.
