Department of Public Lands Secretary Pete A. Tenorio announced DPL’s remittance of almost $1 million in land leases to the Marianas Public Land Trust based on the findings of a fiscal year 2013 audit. The remittance is pursuant to Article 11 Section 6 of the CNMI Constitution.

Tenorio, in a June 6 letter to MPLT board of trustees chair Martin B. Ada, said DPL remitted $996,743 to MPLT’s Bank of Guam account No. 0603-000082 via fund transfer.

“This represents the official amount to be remitted based on the findings of the fiscal year 2013, copies of which are provided to MPLT,” Tenorio told Ada.

MPLT trustees earlier considered taking legal action against DPL if it continues to withhold remittances to the land trust.
