The Saipan Mayor’s Office animal program is currently seeking donations of animal food.

Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang informed Saipan Tribune yesterday that the current austerity measures being implemented governmentwide are affecting the program’s funds, hence the need for donations.

“We’re currently in austerity and we need help,” Apatang added.

The animals are currently being sheltered in a temporary facility in Lower Base.

The mayor’s office animal program is different from other animal care programs on the island, because other programs can solicit fund. The mayor’s office animal program is just requesting for animal food. “We are not getting any funding for food unless somebody wants to contribute by donating animal foods,” Apatang added.

The animal program is currently housing stray dogs and cats that were found by the office’s animal control program.

For more information about making donations, contact the Saipan Mayor’s Office at (670) 234-6208.
