Dolphins 1 tops Bracket 2 of HS co-ed badminton

The Marianas High School Dolphins 1 remain the top seed in Bracket 2 on the second day of round-robin games after defeating two schools in the co-ed high school Public School System/TakeCare Badminton Interscholastic League held at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium last Saturday.

Saipan International School Geckos 2 fell first in a sweep to the Dolphins 1, 0-15, while Agape Christian School Torchbearers 2 was the next victim as they fell, 1-14.

The Dolphins 1 boys, consisting of Sernantie Jimenez, Brian Lubao, Ian Lubao, Daniell Pablo, and Kyle Salcedo, and girls including Terresa Ahn, Shemariah Hicaro, Angela Maratas, Prapti Mondal, and Abigael Robles, were perfect in all five events against the Geckos—the boys doubles, boys singles, girls singles, girls doubles, and mixed doubles events.

In their game against the Torchbearers 2, they were almost perfect in all events except for the girls doubles for a score of 2-1.

In other results that day, ACS team 2 lost to Kagman High School, 4-11; KHS beat Grace Christian Academy 1, 9-6; and Saipan Southern High School beat GCA 1, 13-2.

After their successful second game day and after beating Grace Christian Academy and Kagman High School on their first game day last Jan. 21, the Dolphins lead Bracket 2 with an overall score of 55.

In second place is SSHS 1 with 39 points, ACS 2 is third place with 30 points, KHS is next with 26 points, and Grace Christian Academy and SIS are both at the bottom with 21 points.

With this, both of the Dolphins teams lead their respective brackets, as Dolphins 1 leads Bracket I with 56 points.

The schedule for the next round-robin games are on Saturday, Feb. 25. 

The Top 2 of Bracket 1 and Bracket 2 round-robin semifinal games are scheduled for Saturday, March 4, while the championship game is scheduled for Saturday, March 11.
