Dolang Team leads winners in spearfishing tourney
Dolang Team ruled the 7th Annual Marianas Apnea Spearfishing Club Tournament held early this month in the waters off Saipan.
The group that had three members in Dennis Pua and Joe and Luis Cepeda earned a total catch of 50.34 to beat seven other teams in the annual tournament. Dolang Team prevailed over Morita Asai, Greg Sasamoto, and Ton Tenorio’s Bantalan Team, which collected only 46.46 lbs. Bantalan Team edged Team Kolbe, which tallied 34.18 lbs. Frank Villagomez and Jimber Marcelo were Team Kolber’s members.
Completing the list of entries in the Nov. 8 tournament were Tiger Team of Guo Liang, Cheng Sheng Qian, Mark Hapdei (30.50lbs); Trench Divers of Abraham Quitugua, Jr., J.R. Brel, and Joshua Villagomez (20.58lbs); Salty Boys’ Manuel Degracia, David Lizama, and Roman Camacho (9.88lbs); MASC’s Felix Sasamoto and Norman Camacho (5.20lbs); and The Things’ Ton Robert, Dave Camacho, and Ton Manibusan (5.10lbs).
Besides the total weight category, the tournament also held competitions in the heaviest single catch and rudder fish. Asai landed the heaviest rudder at 2.98lbs, while Liang got the heaviest single catch at 7.56lbs.
Meanwhile, MASC president Felix Sasamoto said next year’s tournament will revert to its old schedule—sometime in May.
