The Saipan Mayor’s Office now has a vehicle to use for its dog control program.

Executive secretary Vinycia Seman said the pickup truck with trailer that they got last week was obtained through federal funds.

“We’re pleased that we now have the proper vehicle to capture stray dogs and transport them to our facility,” said Seman.

Saipan Tribune learned that 1,648 dogs have already been registered under the dog control program, which kicked off in June.

Dog registration is currently being held at the San Roque Fire Station and the Saipan Mayor’s Office.

Seman said they are now working on getting started with construction of a dog facility in Lower Base.

At present, Seman said stray dogs are kept at a transfer station in Chalan Kanoa.
