Docomo’s Shedd wins GBM Executive of the Year
TAMUNING, Guam-Jay R. Shedd, president and chief executive officer of Docomo Pacific, was named the 2011 Guam Business Magazine Executive of the Year on Jan. 14 at the 29th annual Guam Business Magazine Executive of the Year gala at the Hyatt Regency Guam.
Shedd, 51, was among six nominees on the slate for the annual award program which recognizes executives who have made outstanding contributions to the local business community and raised the bar in the field in which they are involved. Shedd is featured in portraiture on the cover of the Guam Business Magazine January-February issue which was released at the gala concurrently with the announcement of the winner’s name.
During his time with Docomo Pacific, Shedd has overseen Docomo’s rebranding from GuamCell Communications to its current status, and led the company to a record $47 million revenue goal for fiscal 2011.
After graduating high school in 1978, he studied chemistry at California State University before leaving in 1983 to begin his career in communications. He later returned to school and graduated from Arizona State University in 2009 with a bachelor’s in liberal studies.
Shedd started in the telecommunications industry in 1983 as a radio communications representative for Motorola Communications and Electronics in California. In 1994 he moved to Guam to serve as the senior vice president, general manger, and corporate office for GuamCell Communications Inc.
After working with GuamCell for nine years, he moved to Arizona from 2001 to 2007 to join RevoTech LLC as chief operating officer and partner. In 2005, Shedd worked as an investor and realtor for Keller Williams Realty, where he remained until 2008, when he returned to Guam to assume his current position with Docomo Pacific.
Shedd served in 2009 and 2010 as the chairman of the board of the Guam Chapter of the American Red Cross and continues to participate in the chapter’s activities. He is a member of the Andersen Civilian Advisory Council and the Guam Chamber of Commerce’s Armed Forces Committee. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Guam.
He and his wife, Sheila, have four children: Erica, 18, Aiyana, 14, Hayden, 9, and Shane, 6.
