Docomo unresponsive to CUC’s inquiries
According to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board of directors, Docomo has been unresponsive to CUC’s letters to revisit their memorandum of understanding in terms of the maintenance of cable lines.
Board member Joe Torres brought the issue to the table, with legal counsel James Sirok stating that he does not recall a response from Docomo to date.
Torres said the board has already sent Docomo two letters but no response has been made.
“I think we really should demand now for Docomo to come in and sit with us because as we can see, their lines affect our distribution system when it comes down to it,” he said.
Torres noted that the contract has never been adjusted to address recent rate changes.
“If I recall, the rental rate was never raised for the last 15 years. We have to revisit that as something to improve in our MOU agreement,” he said.
Sirok expressed that the MOU agreement is not an automatic renewal, but the current contract mirrored the last contract and Docomo has no responsibility for maintenance.
Torres lamented, “I just want to make sure there’s no issue of vegetation that reaches the secondary lines of distribution…who is responsible for that? They’re using a lighter cable but the vines still carry weight,” he said.
