Docomo Pacific offers $5 credit
To make up for the network issues that Docomo Pacific subscribers experienced last Friday that caused temporary connection disruption of all its services, Docomo Pacific is offering its consumers a credit of $5 to be applied to their next billing.
According to Docomo Pacific public relations officer Jared Roberto, the company empathizes with the situation that their subscribers had to go through. “We understand that this incident deeply affected our customers, and we apologize. All Docomo Pacific consumers with home internet, entertainment, postpaid or prepaid mobile and home phone services will receive an automatic credit of $5 per service subscription,” he said. “The credit will be applied to their current billing cycle. If a payment was already made, the credit will be applied to your next bill. For example, if a customer has four postpaid services, the total credit will amount to $20.”
The network disruption started mid-afternoon Friday last week, interrupting mobile, office and home phone access, internet, and cable TV services. The company said that the proximate cause of the outage was an “inadvertent fiber line break.”
“Our tech teams have identified the issue to be an inadvertent (on-land) fiber line break in Guam. This fiber cable feeds into the ATISA cable, which caused the service outages in the CNMI. Customers in the southern villages of Guam were affected by this cable break. Our teams worked throughout the night and saw services in Guam and CNMI slowly come back around 10pm,” Roberto said.
While waiting for a formal announcement from Docomo Pacific that explains the network disruption, some members of the community speculated that a cyberattack was taking place due to the conflict in Eastern Europe that involves Russia and Ukraine. Docomo Pacific said that wasn’t the case and assures the public that they are ready for any form of cyberbreach into their network, according to chief legal officer James Hofman. “Docomo Pacific works closely with the U.S. departments of Justice and Homeland Security and is in regular consultation with the FBI and other law enforcement resources to monitor and detect a variety of threats. We have adopted best practices consistent with both physical and cybersecurity to keep our networks and customers’ data secure,” he said.
