Docomo Pacific handed over a $5,000 check yesterday to the American Red Cross-Northern Mariana Islands Chapter that will go toward the chapter’s “Red Cross Gala” on Feb. 26.
American Red Cross- NMI Chapter and Docomo representatives who were present for the handoff at Docomo’s Gualo Rai location included American Red Cross-NMI Chapter chairperson Mable Glenn; American Red Cross-NMI Chapter executive director John Hirsh; Docomo Pacific CNMI brand manager and American Red Cross-NMI Chapter board member Brent Deleon Guerrero; and Docomo Pacific general manager Pauline Johnson.
In an interview yesterday, Hirsh said that Docomo has been a “very long-time supporter” of the Red Cross, being involved with the NMI Chapter’s mission work for over 20 years now.
“We’re just so grateful to Brent [Deleon Guerrero], Pauline [Johnson], and everyone here on the Docomo team that they can help support the humanitarian mission, because [the money] that they’re donating [is] really going right back out to the community to help people, and that’s the way it should be,” he said.
As an American Red Cross-NMI Chapter board member and CNMI brand manager for Docomo Pacific, Deleon Guerrero said it was nice to see his employer commit to and support organizations like the Red Cross. This is Deleon Guerrero’s first year as an American Red Cross-NMI Chapter board member.
“It’s nice to see that I work for an employer who supports these kinds of missions and to also [work for] an employer who doesn’t wait for any disasters to go in and make an effort to assist the Red Cross,” he said.
Johnson said she and Docomo are “very happy and actually fortunate” to have raised $5,000 to go toward the American Red Cross. With several events being cancelled that would have taken place pre-pandemic, Johnson said Docomo was able to migrate funds that would have gone to these cancelled events and make a generous donation to the American Red Cross-NMI Chapter and its gala. Johnson added that Docomo hopes to match the amount for future donations.
According to Hirsh, the Feb. 26 dinner event at Kensington Hotel Saipan will be a celebration of local front-liners, from firefighters to anyone in the CNMI who has worked in customer service since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hirsh added that the chapter’s gala has five sponsors as of yesterday, with Docomo being one of the larger donors.
