District Court will open today
Power outages affect water services, wastewater plants
The U.S. District Court for the NMI will be open this afternoon, Tuesday, as stated in the order issued Sunday by Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona.
Amanda Hayes, judicial chambers administrator to Manglona, said last night that in the event there’s any changes, another order will be issued.
The court will open at 1pm.
A status conference in the case against Rota Mayor Efraim M. Atalig will go ahead today at 1:30pm.
Manglona ordered the closure of the court yesterday because of Typhoon Mangkhut.
Manglona said the court will reopen at 1pm Tuesday, Sept. 11, “unless otherwise ordered.”
Manglona said the CM/ECF electronic filing system will remain online, unaffected by this weather closure.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Mangkhut caused power outages, affecting water services in many villages and at wastewater plants on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.
According to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., as of 4pm yesterday, Saipan and Tinian received several trouble calls ranging from damaged cross arms at power poles, pole top pins, pin insulators and customer droplines, among other things
On Rota, CUC turned off the island’s all power circuits until conditions are safe for CUC crew to proceed with assessment. (Ferdie de la Torre)
