Capping the celebration of March as International Women’s Month, the U.S. District Court for the NMI hosted last Friday its first Women’s Month Meet and Mingle to inspire more women to pursue careers in law.

With the theme of the event being “learning from the ladies in the law,” the U.S. District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands and the CNMI Bar Association hosted the inaugural community engagement event at the Gualo Rai courthouse, with female judges and lawyers taking the spotlight.

According to the organizers, the event’s goal was to enhance and promote diversity in the legal profession by highlighting the stories of women with diverse backgrounds, including practicing attorneys, working professionals, and judges who work or interact with the federal judiciary.

“Of female jurists and legal professionals, we aim to inspire and encourage more women to pursue careers in law and help enhance diversity in the legal field,” said Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona.

The event’s attendees included students from the Northern Marianas College and the Public School System. Also in attendance was CNMI Bar Association president Charity R. Hodson and other members of the bar association, court staff from both the U.S. District Court and the CNMI Judiciary, as well as community members.

“The U.S. District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands looks forward to hosting similar community outreach events, which contributes to the court’s mission of providing equal access to justice for all,” said Manglona.
