Dine and unwind at Pretty Kitchen

The ginger lobster is one of a variety of seafood dishes Pretty Kitchen offers.  After feasting over Pretty Kitchen’s suckling Peking duck, yummy Fukien fried race, crispy and meaty dumplings, and the tender braised Dongpo pork, stay awhile, have a drink, and sing your favorite songs using the restaurant’s touch screen karaoke and HD TV.

Pretty Kitchen, which opened Wednesday night in Garapan across the Mobil gas station on Beach Road, brings to Saipan the flavors of the different regions of China while providing a venue to hang out with friends and family.

“We have Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Korean, and English songs. So everyone can sing here,” said Horacio Zhao, one of Pretty Kitchen’s managers.

“As for our food, it is a combination of the different regions in China. We also offer Korean and Japanese cuisine and seafood dishes,” said Pretty Kitchen’s Norman Xing.

Pretty Kitchen’s roasted duck is a famous dish from the northern part of China, particularly from Beijing. The thinly sliced crispy skin and tender dark meat are served with a thick brown sweet sauce called “tian mian jiang” and wrappers or Mandarin pancakes.

Fukien fried rice, a specialty in Fukien or Fujian in the southeast coast of China, is a rice meal topped with a gravy that is cooked with chicken or beef broth and either meat or seafood and a variety of vegetables, such as carrots and cucumber, mixed with tomato and mushroom. It’s like fried rice topped with stew.

For the dumplings and dim sums, which are both from the southern (Canton/Guangdong and Hong Kong) and northern part of the country, Pretty Kitchen has them either fried or steamed and are a mix of vegetables and either pork or shrimp.

The Dongpo from Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in eastern China, is a half-fat, half-meat bite-sized pork slowly cooked in Chinese fermented wine.

“We could go on with our list of Chinese cuisine and you would feel as if you’ve already toured China,” Xing said.

After your gastronomical adventures, check out the latest hit songs in the restaurant’s touch screen karaoke. There are three touch screen karaoke machines at Pretty Kitchen one each at its two private rooms and another one in the main dining area. These are paired with 60-inch HD TV sets (one each at the private rooms and one more plus two 42-inch HD TV sets at the main dining area). Each of the private rooms can seat 15 to 20 people and is available for only $168 (can be used from 5pm to 10pm).

Pretty Kitchen is also open for lunch, from 10am to 2pm and also does catering services. Prices are affordable and local produce are used in their dishes.

“We don’t want to scare away customers, so we really keep our prices low. We also get our ingredients from local farmers to keep the food fresh and help other businesses,” Xing said.
