Dickens’ classic Christmas tale this weekend
In keeping with their tradition of putting up Christmas-themed theatrical productions this time of the year, the Friends of the Arts will bring back to life Charles Dickens’ timeless classic, A Christmas Carol.
Show dates will be on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 7pm and on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 3pm and 7pm at the MHS Dolphin Theater. Ticket prices are $4 for students, $6 for FOA members, and $8 for adults.
FOA, along with Rhythm ‘N Harmony and the Marianas High School Theater Club, will retell the story of the grouchy Ebenezer Scrooge’s unusual journey of reviving his Christmas spirit.
Harold Easton plays the stingy Mr. Scrooge while Dave Butcher will take on the role of the ghost of Ebenezer’s deceased business partner, Jacob Marley. Eden Connor, Vivian Viernes, and Ezra Connor will go on stage as the Spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet To Come, respectively.
Lance Deleon Guerrero will be playing Fred, Mr. Scrooge’s nephew and only living relative, while Kaisa Anderson will be in the role of Mrs. Cratchit. Marylou Connor will be the narrator.
Easton is directing the play, with Paul Dujua handling the musical side of the production.
Open auditions for A Christmas Carol began in the first week of November. Students from Marianas High School, Mt. Carmel School, and Saipan Southern High School, as well as FOA members, auditioned for the production.
Friends of the Arts staged its first ever Christmas-themed play, A Christmas Carol, in 2006. Since then, FOA, Rhythm ‘N’ Harmony, and the MHS Theater Club have been joining forces to stage holiday-themed productions each time the Christmas comes around.
