Diaz, Docomo win scoring battle
Veteran gunner Tony Diaz won his scoring duel with Allen Reyes in leading Docomo Pacific to a 92-79 victory over Top Development Inc. in the continuation of action in the 2015 JP World Corp. Customer Appreciation Basketball League last Monday night at the TSL Sports Complex.
Diaz scored 32 points beating Reyes’ 31 as Docomo along with Saipan Ice joined Marianas Resort and Tan Holdings in the win column.
Commonwealth Utilities Corp. was battling Marianas Brokers Inc. and Joeten Enterprises were playing against McDonald’s at press time.
Diaz poured in 13 of his 16 first half points in the second period to help Docomo erect a 54-33 lead at the turn.
Docomo was never threatened after that and always had an answer to TDI’s repeated comeback tries to cruise to the double-digit win.
Robert Sanciangco, Melvin Manibusan, and Richard Mendiola combined for 32 points to back up Diaz’s game-long brilliance. Three other players—Conrad Sablan, Rick Sanchez, and Jaynard White turned in 8 markers each, while Jayson Hayes had 4 to end Docomo’s scoring.
Raymond Velasco also had a productive output for TDI with 29, while Jeron Reyes had a quiet 11 markers.
Earlier, Saipan Ice held Cape Air to a free throw in the opening period in coasting to a lopsided 78-41 decision.
Derick Rangamar was on fire for Saipan Ice as he scattered 27 points to lead their team’s offensive onslaught while John Santy collected 21 markers.
Michael Welson and Treat Kaipat each contributed 12 and 11 points also for Saipan Ice, which enjoyed a 60-27 spread entering the final 10 minutes of play.
Only four players scored for Saipan Ice with James Yanrulu and Benedict Canete ending up with 14 and 13 markers, while George Camacho and Isiah Tamalo finishing with 8 and 6 points apiece.
