Democratic Party candidates certified
All the candidates of the NMI Democratic Party have been officially certified by the Commonwealth Election Commission.
The NMI Democratic Party handed certificates to all 18 candidates that are running for a seat in the CNMI government this coming election, officiating their candidacy.
The Democratic Party candidates who are running for a seat in the CNMI House of Representatives and Senate are Celina R. Babauta, Antonio Cabrera, Peter Muna, Benusto Piteg, Edwin Propst, Christina-Marie Elise Sablan, Luella Marciano, Vicente Camacho, Corina Magofna, Denita Yangetmai, Alfredo Saures, Jenita Castro, Sheila Babauta, Richard Lizama, Leila Staffler, Frederick Dela Cruz, Edith Deleon Guerrero, and Jose Cruz.
According to Delegate Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan (Ind-MP) who presented the certificates, it’s good to see so many candidates in the Democratic Party as it would result in much needed competition in the CNMI.
“Competition of ideas are great. It’s healthy to compete. I’m glad the Democrats have put out more choices and we’ll see, let the people decide,” he said.
Sablan said he has heard from many that they are unhappy with the current administration and having another choice, competition, is good.
“I’m hearing from people who are, for one reason or another, unhappy with the administration and with the Republicans. You have a government that has cronyism, favoritism, corruption some say, and I think that unfortunate. I’m an independent and I’m not saying all Democrats are good candidates, there are good Democrats and there are good Republicans. These are smart, honest people and I think they will be hard working people. I hope the people will consider the Democrats,” he said.
Former speaker Herman HR Guerrero, who was there to present certificates, also said it’s about time the CNMI changes its government.
“For some time, the Democratic Party, we went into a long vacation but it’s about time to change. I’m so happy about our candidates and that they are all certified. I’m particularly happy that we have such credible candidates,” he said.
