DeLoatch rules MGA December tourney

Chandler DeLoatch prevailed in the Marianas Golf Association’s December Ace of the Month Tournament held at the Mariana Country Club last Dec. 5.
DeLoatch shot a gross 81 built around his 41 in the first nine holes and 40 in the last nine. He has a 15 handicap to end up with a net 66 and a four-stroke win against runner-up Tony Guerrero. DeLoatch saved pars on holes No. 3, 5, 6, and 9 to make up for his bogeys in the five other holes on the front nine. At the back, DeLoatch played a bit better, as he had pars in the first three holes (No. 10 , 11, and 12) and did the same at No. 14, 17, and 18.
Tony Guerrero also listed a 41 in the first nine holes, but had to settle for the runner-up honors this month, as he finished with a 42 on the back for a net 70. Guerrero has a 13 handicap and narrowly defeated Jay Muna for third place, as the latter posted a net 71. The 8-handicapper Muna got off to a strong start with his gross 37 on the front nine, but dropped to third when he registered a gross 42 on the back.
Meanwhile, this month’s tournament also doubled up as the first part of the club’s Ace of Aces Tournament.
Early favorite J.J. Atalig logged the best gross score in the field with his 5-over par 77. He registered a 39 and 38 on the front and back nines, respectively, and deducting his 3 handicap, Atalig ended up with a 77, just two shots ahead of Muna’s 79.
Twenty other MGA members joined the first round of the season-ending competition. The list includes Jerry Ayuyu (gross 109 and net 90), Aaron Benavente (94/79), Jeri Dela Cruz (103/82), Joey Dela Cruz (82/75), Jenny Hegland (87/77), Carl Hocog (91/80), Sylvan Igisomar (108/84), Harry Nakamura (80/74), Mart Naputi (101/81), Erlinda Naputi (121/91), Ned Norita (91/83), Jesse Ramon (112/88), John Sablan (104/86), Greg Sablan, Jr. (96/82), Jack Salas (90/75), Jess Seman (86/79), Shine Tenorio (96/78), Louie Tilipao (85/75), and Calvin Yamagishi (93/80).
The second and last MGA Ace of Aces tournament will be held next month. MGA did not indicate in the results sent to Saipan Tribune if the gross or net scores (two rounds combined) will decide the winner of the 2015 club championship.
